The Texas AM Aggies, a member of the Big 12 Conference, has its home in College Station, Texas.  Originally, the team was a charter member of the Southwest Conference.  However, this membership ended when the conference was dissolved in 1996.  The team's nickname is the Aggie, which is a common nickname for colleges that were originally land grant (agricultural) colleges.  The mascot for the team is a collie named Reveille.  The mascot was originally chosen when the student body adopted a mixed breed dog in 1931.  The team has had 18 conference titles and one national title, which it won in 1939.  The last time the team made an appearance at a bowl game was in 2006, when they played in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.  However, the Aggies ended up getting beat by the California Golden Bears.

After a series of coaching changes, Mike Sherman has been the head coach of the team since November of 2007. During the 2009 season, the team had a 6-7 record (which was 5-2 at home games).   Some of the team's major rivals include: the Texas Longhorns, the Texas Red Raiders, the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Baylor Bears.   The team is currently represented in the National Football League by 19 of its former players.  These include: Michael Bennett at Tampa Bay, Stephen McGee at the Dallas Cowboys, Pat Williams at the Minnesota Vikings, and Ty Warren at the New England Patriots.  In addition, several NFL coaches are former A&M players.  Some of these coaches are: Shawn Slocum (assistant special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers), Dennis Allen (assistant defensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints), Jerry Fontenot (assistant line coach for the Green Bay Packers),  and Zerick Rollins (linebackers coach at the Seattle Seahawks). One former player, Yale Lary. was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1979.  Additionally, Texas A&M is the home to one Heisman Trophy winner, John David Crow, who won the trophy in 1957. Fans can watch the team play in their home stadium, Kyle Field, which can seat up to 83,000 people.  The Aggies are know for their annual bonfire, held every year sincee 1909.
