The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a great college football team known as the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This team proudly wears team colors of Scarlet and Cream, and has two jerseys to mix it up with. Team mascots include Herbie Husket and Lil' Red. Since the team first started in 1890, it has been a huge force to reckon with. The team plays at the Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. The stadium holds 81,067 people! This team is in the bIg12 conference and is in the North Division.

Back when the team started first in year of 1890, they were known by several nicknames including  "Bugeaters", "Tree Planters", "Nebraskans", "The Rattlesnake Boys", "Antelopes", "Old Gold Knights" and "Cornhuskers". Their school newspaper started referring to them as the Cornhuskers, and the name just sort of stuck. Luckily most of the other names dropped of! Do not be surprised if you hear the nickname Blackshirts either, as this is the nickname for the Husker defense. Their symbol is that of a skull and crossbones! Talk about intimidation!

The Huskers have won 5 National Championship seasons. They won the Orange Bowl in 1970, 1971, 1194, and 1997. They won the Fiesta Bowl in 1995. The team has had three players win the Heisman Trophy, including Johny Rodgers on 1972, Mike Rozier in 1983, and Eric Crouch in 2001. They have retired two jerseys, number 60 for Tom Novack and number 64 for Bob Brown. This team current has over thirty of past their players playing professional football! These players include Titus Adams who players for the Cleveland Browns and Zach Potter who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Die hard fans are very excited tosee what this great team does in the next few upcomming seasons. The current coach is Bo Pelini, and he has big plans for the Cornhusker boys. This team currently holds the record for fourth most all time victories of any NCAA Division I-A team, and it will be exciting to see if they can make it to third or if they will be moved down to fifth. They have played over 119 seasons, and this team just seems to keep getting better and better!
