The Oklahoma State Cowboys, currently coached by Mike Gundy, are a strong member of the Big 12's Southern Division. Before being called the Cowboys, they were simply known as A&M, and later referred to as the Aggies. In 1923 they were in the market for a new nickname, though, and that happened when some students approached the American author and cowboy, Frank Eaton, who happened to be in the area leading the Armistice Day Parade. He was used as the model for what became their mascot that still lives on to this day. By 1924, they were nicknamed the cowboys following the incredible popularity of the mascot.

The Cowboys have been to a total of 17 bowl games, 10 of which they were victorious in. Though they lost their last Cotton Bowl to Ole Miss, they are expected to be stronger than ever in 2010. It has been noted that the Cowboys have had very effective offensive players, especially in 2007 and 2008. However, this was not matched by their devensive players and so they were unable to be the winning team they could have been. This was apparent, so defense has been one of the team's primary focuses.

Though the defense is something that the Cowboys are working hard on to fix, don't forget about the strong offense. In fact, Kendall Hunter, running back for the Cowboys, as well as the punter Quinn Sharp, have been named some of the favorites for the College Football Performance Awards in 2010. These are well deserved honors, as Hunter had an amazing year in 2008. Unfortunately, he was injured for a large part of 2009 but many are anticipating his return in 2010. As for Quinn Sharp, it has been said that his performance has been one of the strongest since the rule has required it to come from the 30 yard line.

Overall, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are going to be a force to be reckoned in 2010. With their usually strong offense and their new, ever improving defense, they will continue to move forward and most likely do very big things this year.
