Anyone keeping up with college football knows about the North Carolina Tarheels! This bright teem plays for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has a Ramses mascot. If you are a fan of this team you are lovingly called a Tar Heel. Numerous players for this team have been named All American, and they are a great force to recon with!
This team has been around for just nearly one hundred and twenty years! They have played in twenty seven bowl games, and have had several players move on to professional football. These players include the great Lawrence Taylor, Ken Willard, Julius Peppers, and many more! In 2001 Julius Peppers won the Chuck Bednarik Award, and in he also won the Lombardi award that same year!
This team wears blue, white, and black, and has won 12 football bowls. They won their first bowl, the Gator Bowl on December 28, 1963 against Air Force, 35-0. They continued on with the Sun Bowl on December 30, 1972 winning against Texas Tech 32-28. December 28, 1979 they won the Gator Bowl against Michigan, 17-15. They won in 1980, 1981, and 1982 in the bluebonnet Bowl, the Gator Bowl, and the Sun Bowl. They won the Peach bowl on January 2, 1993 against Mississippi State 21-17. They won the CarQuest Bowl on December 30, 1995 against Arkansas 20-10. They won the Gator Bowl in both 1997 and 1998. They won the Las Vegas Bowl on December 19, 1998 against San Diego state 20-13. Their most recent bowl victory was the Peach Bowl on December 31, 2001 against Auburn 16-10.
This great college football team has retired 5 jerserys; 22 for Charlie Justice, 46 for Bill Sutherland, 50 for Art Weiner, 59 for Andey Bershak, and 99 for George Barclay. Three of there players are in the college football hall of fame, and one of tehir players made it into the profesisonal football hall of fame, Lawrence Taylor in 1999. Tar Heels are excited to see hwo their boys willplay in the upcomming season, and great things are expected from this UNC great team.
