The University of Washington, located in Seattle, Washington is home to the Washington Huskies. This University is a member of the Pac-10 Conference with its program in athletics making up of nine men’s sport teams and 10 women’s sports teams.

This University is well known for its football program since the early 1900’s and played it’s first game of football in 1889.  UW, as most call it, had 63 unbeaten football games during the years of 1907 through 1917. During this 10-year period, the team had won 39 consecutive games with the coaching of Gil Dobie.  This is the second longest winning streak in NCAA Division I-A history. Coach Dobie finished his career with an amazing 58-0-3 undefeated record. The winning continue, as in 1925 the Huskies had another winning season but lost to Alabama in the Rose Bowl. Then in 1960 under the coaching of Jim Owens, the team finished their season 10-1 and won its second Rose Bowl in a row by defeating Minnesota.

Notorious Coach Don James came to coach the Huskies in 1975 and during his tenor; he converted the team into a national powerhouse with a 153-57-2 career record. In 1977, Coach James had his first successful career with the team quarterback Warren Moon and another Rose Bowl victory over Michigan. In 1981, a rematch between the two teams resulted in a Michigan win. The Huskies once again returned to the Rose Bowl the following year, 1982, and defeated Iowa 28-0, which was the last and only shutout in the past 50 years. The Huskies powerful football program continued to dominate until 2008 when they were the only team in Pac-10 history to acquire a 0-12 record. Then in 2009, they experienced a 15 game losing streak.

The Huskies chose their mascot, Harry the Husky, by a student committee in 1922. Today a live Alaskan Malamute walks the football team on to the field and sits on the sidelines during games. The school fight song is Bow Down to Washington and their school colors of purple and gold was voted in by students in 1892. Their biggest rival is Washington State University.
