The Texas Tech Red Raiders are the football team of Texas Tech University.  The university is located in Lubbock, Texas.  The mascot of the team is the Masked Raider and the Red Raider, which was referred to as the Ghost Rider when it was originally adopted as the team's mascot. The mascot, who is dressed completely in black, leads the team  onto the football team on horseback.   Texas Tech is the founding member of the Big 12 Conference.  Their home is Jones AT&T Stadium, which can hold over 50,000 fans.  The stadium has been in use since 1947.  The team's colors are scarlet and black.  The players have three different styles of uniforms. One is a white uniform, one is a black uniform, and one is a red uniform.  The fight song is Fight, Raiders, Fight, which is played by the Goin' Band from Raiderland marching band.  In terms of academics, the American Football Coaches Association has honored the team every year since 2001 for having a graduation rate over 70%.

The team was coached until the end of the 2009 season by Mike Leach, who had been the coach since 2000.  Coach Ruffin McNeill took over coaching duties before the team's appearance in the 2010 Alamo Bowl.  The team ended up winning the game, 20-13 against Michigan State.  During the entire 2009 season, their record was 9-4.  Since 2009, Texas Tech and Baylor have come to an agreement to play one game in the Dallas area (the game is generally played in October).  This was the 13th consecutive winning season for the team,  Additionally, they have made 32 bowl appearances.   Two players have been named  ESPN All American Player of the Year - Michael Crabtree in 2007, and Graham Terrell in 2008. There are 18 Red Raiders currently playing in the National Football League.  These include: Graham Terrell (at the Green Bay Packers), Rajon Henley (at the Atlanta Falcons), David Loper (at the Oakland Raiders), and Brandon Williams (at the Dallas Cowboys).  The team's major rivals include: the Texas A&M Aggies, the Texas Longhorns, and less traditionally, the Oklahoma Sooners.
