The Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team hails from the State University of New Jersey. They compete at the NCAA Division 1 level and have been a part of the Big East Conference since 1991. Their current coach is Greg Schiano, who has been credited with turning the team around from a losing record. The students got a fair vote in the name of the mascot, and in 1955 it was decided that they would be called the Scarlet Knights. The team has gone through many ups and downs since their inception, yet they always continue to play hard to contend with even the most difficult of opponents.

After Greg Schiano took over the team and began to turn it around, the Scarlet Knights have really started to be victiorious, having a winning season each year after 2005. In fact, in the last three years alone ten players have gone on to play football at the professional level. In total, the school has also produced three first round draft pick. In other words, the Scarlet Knights are slowly becoming a more and more dangerous force to be reckoned with on the football field.

As for the bowl games they have played in, Rutgers has done very well. Though they didn't play in any between 1978 and 2005, they have not lost in their last 4 attempts, beating Kansas State, Ball State, North Carolina State, and University of Central Florida. Each win save for the one over North Carolina State has been a convincing one, with the Scarlet Knights leading by over 20 points in the end. This just goes to show how impressively the team has done since being led by Greg Schiano.

In 2010, the Scarlet Knights will continue to improve. Art Forst, a junior at Rutgers and an offensive lineman on the team, has been name to the Outland Trophy Watch List. He is excellent at either playing tackle or guard, and could do either for this upcoming season. Since he began with Rutgers, he has been a starter, and will continue to be one of the main reason they will be difficult to beat in 2010.
