The Duke Blue Devils have a record as colorful and varied as their history. With twenty six varsity teams called by the name "Blue Devils" at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, the name originated a a take off of the nickname given to the French Alpine light infantry battalion in World War I.

The football team boasts a previous world class coach, Wallace Wade, for which the stadium is named. His accomplishments earned him a place in the football hall of fame. They made their first Rose Bowl appearance in 1942, although they lost to USC in the final moments of the game.

They have had a string of good years, especially in the late 1980's, with several winning seasons  under the coaching of Steve Spurrier. They had another banner year in 1994 under the coaching of Fred Goldsmith. The team was hot, with a 8-1 season until the final two games. They made their first New Years Day Bowl Game appearance since 1962.

Ranking near the top of Division I schools, with the most academic awards and achievements of any university. They pride themselves on having the most football players that go on to graduate, giving them the prestigious platform of holding their athletes to high academic standards. With high standard such as theirs, it is a recipe for success.

Their standing as having won seven ACC championships ranks  them fourth only behind Clemson, FSU and Maryland. With three Hall of Famers having come through their program, they have the potential for producing top talented players. Even though last season was not one of their banner years, they have bounced back before. With a history of winning players and coaches, they have the potential to bounce back. They did it once, they can do it again.

With three other college teams in relative close proximity, they have three other arch rivals that keep them on their toes. The North Carolina Tarheels are their all time rival as they battle it out at the Victory Bell each year. Other unoficiall rivalries are the Maryland Terrapins and with Wake University, also known as the Research Triangle.

With a history of greatness and the potential for victory, The Blue Devils can come back and take their rightful place in college football fame.
